Victoria-based singer-songwriter Mat Geddes blends alt-folk, roots rock, and a touch of Nashville twang with lyrics exploring love, mortality, awakening, and the strange beauty of being alive.

His forthcoming debut album, The Gedi Night, was recorded in Nashville with Juno Award-winning producer and guitarist Steve Dawson, alongside Justin Amaral on drums and William Moore on bass. The result is intimate, searching, and quietly cinematic. This is music for reflective moments, open roads, and anyone trying to find light in uncertain times.

Mat is also the frontman for alt-rock band Door d'Or whose debut album The Exquisite Dream has received critical acclaim.

BreakOut West is coming to town, so we’re kicking things off with a night dedicated to some of Victoria’s own talented musicians.

BreakOut the Locals brings four local bands to The Open Studios for four 30-minute sets. It's a sampler of the creative music being made right here in Victoria.

6:15 PM — Zoubi and The Sea Soulful Folk Rock - Zoubi and The Sea blend grooves and poignant lyrics into a sound that’s playful, expressive and unmistakably their own.

7:00 PM — Door D’Or Atmospheric Melodic Grunge. Door D’Or brings textured guitars, raw energy and a heavy, immersive sound built for the live stage. Fresh off their new album release the band has hinted at presenting some fresh new material!

7:45 PM — 3 Sailing Wait Gritty Blues rock - Big guitars, driving rhythms and a rock backbone give 3 Sailing Wait a powerful, kick ass live sound.

8:30 PM — Apex Breaks Psychedelic Jungle Funk - A high-energy 9-piece combo that blends deep grooves of psychedelic rock, drum and bass, classic funk and powerful vocals into a dance-floor-electrifying live show.
